Diversity. Equity. Inclusion.
Diversity and Inclusion at the Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association
The Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association (FBA) embraces diversity as a core value essential to the justice system. As members of the legal community—judges, practitioners, and law students—it is our responsibility and privilege to foster a profession that actively includes, provides equal opportunities to, and welcomes the participation of all individuals.
We are committed to ensuring that people of all backgrounds, regardless of sex, race, gender, ethnicity, color, national origin, citizenship status, religion, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, disability, military or veteran status, and any other unique attribute, are fully represented and valued.
Our Chapter is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion in every facet of our organization and the broader legal profession.
Through our programs, events, and initiatives, we aim to cultivate a legal community that reflects the diversity of the society it serves, ensuring that all voices are heard and respected.
Diversity in Action
Our Chapter’s commitment to diversity and inclusion is reflected through a range of initiatives and programs designed to support underrepresented groups and foster an inclusive legal community:
Inclusive Events and Programming: We host panels, seminars, and discussions that address issues of diversity in the legal profession, and we ensure that our speakers and participants reflect the diversity of the broader legal community.
Mentorship and Leadership Development: Through programs like the Lift Up Leaders Mentorship Program, we actively create pathways to leadership for individuals from diverse backgrounds, empowering the next generation of legal professionals to excel and lead.
Public Service and Community Outreach: We engage in outreach efforts that promote access to justice for underserved and underrepresented populations, reflecting our belief that the legal profession has a responsibility to advocate for the marginalized.
Why Diversity Matters
Diversity is not only a fundamental value but also a practical necessity in ensuring fairness and justice in the legal system. By encouraging the inclusion of individuals from varied backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, we build a stronger legal community that can better serve the public. A diverse legal profession enhances innovation, creativity, and problem-solving, leading to more equitable outcomes in federal practice.
The Chicago Chapter believes that diversity and inclusion are essential to the strength and success of the FBA and the federal legal community at large. Our members are dedicated to advancing this mission and fostering a culture of mutual respect, collaboration, and opportunity for all.
