About Gary Feinerman
Gary Feinerman is a partner at Latham & Watkins, a former federal district judge and Illinois Solicitor General with three decades of experience representing clients in high-stakes litigation. As Co-Chair of the Chicago office’s Litigation & Trial Department, he brings extensive expertise in complex commercial disputes, class actions, securities litigation, and constitutional law. During his 12 years on the bench in the Northern District of Illinois, Gary presided over numerous trials, handled multidistrict litigation, and issued more than 1,000 opinions.
Before joining the bench, Gary was a litigation partner at a global law firm, where he built a successful trial and appellate practice. He has argued cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, Seventh Circuit, and Illinois Supreme Court. Earlier in his career, Gary clerked for Justice Anthony Kennedy and worked in the U.S. Department of Justice. He is a member of the American Law Institute, serves on various boards, and remains deeply involved in Chicago's legal and civic communities.
About Hon. Sunil Harjani
Judge Sunil R. Harjani is the current President-Elect of the FBA Chicago Chapter. He was sworn in as a United States District Judge on April 2, 2024, following his nomination by President Joseph R. Biden and Senate confirmation. Before his appointment as district judge, Judge Harjani served as a U.S. Magistrate Judge in the Northern District of Illinois from 2019 to 2024.
Prior to joining the bench, Judge Harjani was an Assistant United States Attorney and Deputy Chief of the Securities and Commodities Fraud Section in Chicago, where he led investigations and prosecutions of complex white-collar crimes. He also has experience in federal civil litigation as Senior Counsel at the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission and as an associate at Jenner & Block. Judge Harjani holds both a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University and serves as an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern Law School, teaching White Collar Criminal Practice, Federal Civil Discovery, and Depositions.
