About Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer

Chief Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer, born on September 13, 1954, in Tokyo, Japan, is the first female Chief United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, a position she has held since July 1, 2019. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Valparaiso University in 1976 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School in 1979. Her legal career includes serving as a law clerk to Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Rosalie E. Wahl, practicing law at Hopkins & Sutter in Chicago, and serving as an administrative law judge on the Illinois Human Rights Commission. She was a United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of Illinois before being nominated by President Bill Clinton and confirmed by the Senate as a United States District Judge in 1998.
