12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
From its earliest days, our nation has experienced conflict between those who would extend the franchise to previously excluded groups and those who would keep the right to vote a narrow one. This panel will discuss that conflict and the 2020 election.
Panelists include Professor Ellen D. Katz and Ami Gandhi. Professor Katz, a former clerk for Justice David H. Souter of the U.S. Supreme Court, writes and teaches about election law at the University of Michigan Law School, and she published an influential empirical study of litigation under the Voting Rights Act. Ami Gandhi is Senior Counsel for the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights. Ms. Gandhi works to reduce barriers to voting and improve civic participation, especially in communities of color and low-income communities. Her experience includes leading statewide voter protection efforts for the 2016 and 2018 elections. Tim Hudson, a partner at Tabet DiVito & Rothstein, LLC will moderate the panel.
